In the Garden

This past spring we finally started the vegetable garden we've been discussing for years. We really don't have a clue what we are doing, but we're learning a lot along the way and loving it. This year we built two boxes in the backyard and we hope to add at least two more next season and go from there. The dream is to grow enough vegetables and herbs for our family so that we don't have to buy the things we are able to grow ourselves. But like I said, we still have lots to learn!

This year we planted carrots, romaine lettuce, garlic, onions, jalapeƱos, cucumbers, cilantro, bell peppers, tomatoes and honeydew melon!

We found a friend in our Cilantro!
Sometimes we find him hanging out among the cucumbers as well.

All the cucumbers!

Just one little cherry tomato so far, but there are more on the way!
The girls and I cut it in thirds so we each could try it.

Growing their food has been such a great thing for the girls. It's important to us that they know where our food comes from. They're learning the care that goes into it, the importance of minimizing how much food we waste. Were getting real creative with ways to use cucumbers, because we planted way too many!  They are always eager to help tend to and water the garden, and lets face it- any reason to play in the dirt, they're all for it.

Hello Again

My goodness it's been some time since I've stopped by this space of mine. So long that I stared at the screen for a good thirty seconds before I could remember how to start a new post! I've never been too consistent when it comes to posting here, but this is ridiculous! Life gets in the way, as it so often does, but we're still here! Plugging along, hangin' out in trees and navigating life. I'll be back again soon with a bit about what my gang and I are up to these days, what has changed and what has stayed the same since my accidental hiatus from this little blog.
